Why we’re starting with the T-shirt
A T-shirt is often the first thing you put on and the piece you return to most. That familiarity is why we chose it as the starting point for IRON LIGHT. When a garment is this simple, its shape has to do the work.
We are an apparel brand based in Cape Town, developing our first T-shirt. Our direction is restrained: considered proportions, an integrated shoulder line and understated branding. The design is still in development; physical sampling will help us find out which decisions work in practice.
Start with the way it sits
Think about the T-shirt you wear most. Does the neckline sit where you want it? Do the sleeves and body feel balanced? Can you move comfortably without constantly adjusting it?
These are useful questions because “good fit” is personal. Some people want a closer silhouette; others prefer more room. Our task is to make a deliberate shape, then test it on a body instead of relying on an image.
For the first IRON LIGHT concept, the shoulder line is part of that work. We are exploring how it meets the sleeve and upper body, and how those proportions relate to the rest of the garment. You can explore the current T-shirt concept here.
Fabric is part of the decision
Weight alone will not tell you whether you will enjoy wearing a T-shirt. Consider how the fabric feels against your skin, how it moves and whether it suits the conditions you actually wear it in.
For us, choosing fabric and refining fit belong to the same process. Final materials and specifications will be confirmed after sampling and testing. The black and white colourways shown in our concepts are planned options, subject to approval.
Leave room for the work
A concept lets us communicate a direction. A physical sample lets us examine it. We will share development updates as the garment progresses, including decisions that change along the way.
We are not accepting orders or deposits yet. Joining the founding list means following the process, with no obligation to buy and no garment reservation.
